Air-dried, your hair forms a loose, stretched-out S shape starting around mid-length, with straighter roots. The wave disappears the moment you brush it or use anything heavy. A strand is fine and easily bent.
Holding the pattern. Type 2A has just enough wave to be visible and not nearly enough structure to survive product weight, brushing, or humidity. Most people with 2A give up and straighten it.
2A hair is usually low porosity. Warm water when you condition, and a hooded dryer or warm towel during deep conditioning, help products actually absorb instead of sitting on top.
Knowing your type is the first half. The quiz covers the other half — your porosity, scalp condition, damage level, and which ingredients your hair does not tolerate — then builds the routine around all of it.
